Sarek Sweden Traverse 41 Arian Van Falier on the Ultimate Sarek Traverse in Sweden

Arian Van Falier on the Ultimate Sarek Traverse in Sweden

Ultimate (Almost) Sarek Traverse The idea: A 10-day trek starting in Sulitjelma (Norway), via the Nordkottleden and Patjelanteleden hiking trails to Sarek National Park (Swedish Lapland), the last piece of true wilderness in Europe, via the Point of Inaccessibility (the most remote spot on mainland Europe, 46.3 km from the nearest road) straight through Sarek NP to the endpoint Kvikkjokk (Sweden) and that in the fall, just after the season, as a pilot trip for @ArcticAdventure.

Spoiler, this didn’t work out. Due to some minor setbacks, bad weather, and a poor weather forecast, we had to decide, about a kilometer away from the point of inaccessibility, that turning around and executing plan B, continuing via the Patjelanteleden trail to Kvikkjokk, was the only option.

But what an adventure! 10 days through the rugged landscapes in sun, rain, headwind, and snow. With water, more water, and even more water, mountains, swamp, icy river crossings, slippery (read: ice-slick) walkways, tent in the snow… And all that with a backpack of more than 20 kilos on my back at the start. In short, I enjoyed every minute!!!
