Expedition ski goggles with modifications
Expedition ski goggles with modifications
Ski goggles are simply indispensable during winter expeditions.
When buying ski goggles for winter expeditions, however, it is important to keep a few things very keenly in mind.
We’ll tell you here what exactly those things are.
Expedition ski goggles with adjustments will help you get by just fine under winter conditions in Sweden, Greenland, Lapland and Norway.
Do ski goggles fit over regular goggles?
Are you someone who wears regular glasses?
Then, when buying goggles, always check that the desired ski goggles will fit properly over them.
This is extremely important.
Also important are the lenses of the ski goggles.
The finest thing to do for winter expeditions is to choose dark glasses.
After all, that looks a lot nicer.
Most of the time, by the way, you can wear sunglasses during the day just fine.
However, when snow falls and you have to deal with snow crystals, they are still willing to blow under sunglasses toward your eyes.
So in such cases, you swap sunglasses for ski goggles.
Important that expedition ski goggles with adjustments fit properly
The important thing is that the ski goggles fit well, and in every way.
If the glasses do not fit well, you would do well to apply a piece of kite fabric at the nose, you can just do this with super glue.
With this fabric, you can break the wind blowing against your nose just fine.
That way, frostbite is much less likely to occur during your expedition trip.
Are ski goggles resistant to the harmful UV rays?
You would do well to choose ski goggles that can completely block harmful UV rays.
If you are faced with an accumulation of UV, then you may just end up with eye diseases such as cataracts.
Something like snow blindness can also occur.
So it is important to at least check that the glasses are resistant to UV radiation.
What is also important is that the lenses of your ski goggles are not fragile.
Suppose you fall, at least no splinters can get into your eye.
Check for CE marked ski goggles
Also check to see if the ski goggles have a CE mark. These labels are labeled 1, 2, 3 or 4.
For winter conditions, it is better to opt for a 3 or a 4.
Then you can be sure that the goggles will also provide the protection you want, which is also simply necessary during a trip to the Northern Lights, or husky safari.
You adapt the color of the lenses to the conditions, with dark lenses being preferred, as already stated, if you are making an expedition through the snow.
Choose ski goggles with an antifog coating
Finally; it is smart and wise that you choose glasses treated with an antifog coating.
This prevents condensation from forming on the inside of the ski goggles.
And that, too, is by no means insignificant. Ski goggles are essential for any winter expedition.
Choosing glasses is customization.
However, with some adjustments, you will soon have the perfect ski goggles for the snow.
Below you can read the transcript of the video recorded by Henk-Jan Geel about the expedition materials.
‘I would like to explain something to you about the ski glasses I have.
This is my ski goggle and it’s actually a pretty simple ski goggle.
But a few things to watch out for.
The most important thing I think is, should you wear goggles your ski goggles fit over your goggles so check at the time you arrange for ski goggles that they can fit over any goggles.
Then the glasses.
Make sure you have dark glasses.
If you walk all day in the snow, it is nice to have dark glasses.
And ski goggles, during the day you basically just walk around with your sunglasses on, your glacier goggles on.
Your ski goggles are ideal the moment it starts blowing because snow grains, snow crystals or ice crystals, they will blow under your ski goggles or under your regular goggles, but my ski goggles they seal well here so also check the moment you try on ski goggles that they seal completely on all sides.
And now that I have it on, you immediately see something extra that is this here.
I glued a small piece of kite fabric at the nose just with super glue to block the wind should it blow hard on your face it’s very nice to have ski goggles on and that nose that piece of fabric here breaks up the wind blowing against your nose so then you’re less likely to have frostbite on your nose.
So much for ski goggles’
