Pim’s experience in Norway

By: Pim, 1956
Expedition: Heroes of Telemark
Location: Hardangervidda, Norway

Under his leadership, the “HEROES OF TELEMARK” MEMORIAL EXPEDITION took us 100 km across the Hardangervidda Plateau in southern Norway in one week. We moved forward on touring skis with a sled behind us for luggage and camping gear.

It was bitterly cold, the wind blew bleakly, it snowed mercilessly and 8 strangers became comrades, endured the hardships, came to believe in their own abilities and far beyond; had a good time, walked whistling in the sun and sledding down the slope cheering and camping in a tent in the lowest temperatures you could imagine.

The trip was tough, tougher than I had estimated, and I discovered how good it is to have nothing else on your mind for a few days but this one moment and the way to live from there to the next moment. Everyday worries become peanuts.

Such a journey is an examination of your own values. Back from the wilderness, the Corona pandemic turned out to be rampant in the inhabited world and, courtesy of KLM, we were able to get out of Norway and back to the Netherlands just in time.

I can recommend everyone to go on a trip with Arctic Adventure if you find an expedition in the snow challenging.
